Hamster Kombat, a tap-to-earn game on the Telegram platform, was set to launch its token on The Open Network (TON) in July. However, with only two days left in the month, the team has announced that they are still finalizing the plan for the large-scale airdrop.

The Hamster Kombat website still targets July for the token generation event (TGE), but on Monday, the developers shared a lengthy tweet indicating that the token launch might not happen in the next two days before the month ends.

“They are actively working on it,” the team wrote about the airdrop. “Remember, this is a very complex technical task for all platforms involved because Hamster Kombat is one of the largest projects in the industry and could become the largest airdrop in history.”

“This could overload the networks involved in the process,” they added. “We want the airdrop to be as smooth as possible for each one of you, and for everyone to receive their tokens. Currently, we are working closely with the TON blockchain team to develop the most efficient technical solution for our airdrop.”

The anonymous development team of Hamster Kombat stopped short of confirming that the token launch has been delayed. However, when asked, a game representative told Decrypt, “The team is actively working to carry out the airdrop and will share the exact date as soon as possible.”

Adding to the anticipation is the fact that the same representative informed Decrypt of the news that OKX will launch pre-market futures trading for the HMSTR token in the future – with this feature expected to debut on August 1.

Hamster Kombat is a game built on the Telegram messaging platform, rewarding players with in-game currency when they tap on an animated hamster and invest the currency in upgrading a fictional crypto exchange. The game has attracted over 250 million players in the past few months and has also drawn criticism from government officials.

Similar to the previous game Notcoin, Hamster Kombat announced it would launch a token on TON and offer tokens to players via an airdrop claim. Notcoin’s NOT token, released in May, quickly became the most valuable game token launch of 2024 by market capitalization.

OKX, along with several other exchanges, is allowing pre-market trading for the token, including Bybit, KuCoin, Bitget, and Gate.io. Pre-market trading allows crypto users to bet on the token’s price before the TGE.

However, the Hamster Kombat team has yet to announce the conversion rate from the in-game currency to the on-chain token — making this type of pre-market trading particularly risky.
