The number of Telegram users worldwide is surging as interest in games on the platform explodes. Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, announced on Monday that the messaging platform has reached 950 million monthly active users.

“Up from 900 million in the spring,” he wrote. “On our way to 1 billion!”
Telegram’s rapid achievement of this milestone is attributed to the enormous interest in crypto games on Telegram and the rise of The Open Network (TON), which Telegram initially founded before abandoning the project in 2020 amid regulatory troubles. Subsequently, a community of external developers revitalized the chain.
The recent gaming craze was sparked by Notcoin, a simple tap-to-earn game that rewarded players with a huge amount of in-game coins, promising an on-chain reward in the future. Millions of players participated, collecting virtual coins with the hope of one day converting them into real cryptocurrency tokens.
This happened in May, when Notcoin players could convert their earnings into NOT tokens on TON. Supported by major exchanges Binance and OKX, the NOT token airdrop immediately became the largest game token launch of the year. TON now has a market capitalization of $17 billion, making it the 10th largest cryptocurrency.
While Notcoin started the trend, Hamster Kombat has risen to the forefront. Featuring a similar tap-to-earn mechanism combined with cute hamsters and various ways to earn more coins faster, the game has become a global phenomenon. It reached 100 million users in June and even caught the attention of the Iranian government, which feared its popularity would distract citizens from the presidential election.
Earlier this month, Durov stated that Hamster Kombat had attracted 239 million users, describing the game as the “fastest-growing digital service in the world.” Since then, Hamster Kombat has claimed to have reached 250 million players.
Several other games have launched since then, including Yescoin, TapSwap, Catizen, PixelTap, W-Coin, and Musk Empire. Some of these games have even started collaborating, with both PixelTap and Musk Empire providing benefits for Notcoin hodlers.
Like Notcoin, Hamster Kombat has announced that it will launch its own token on TON, and PixelTap’s token is already available on Ethereum with plans to expand to TON.
Despite effectively handing over TON to the community in 2020 when the company faced regulatory scrutiny, the popular messaging app has reintegrated the network in various ways — including sharing advertising revenue with Telegram channel owners.
Besides the information above, there’s a promising project being promoted that the audience should not miss. Safari – a leading presale project on the BNB Smart Chain network, is being launched into the market and promises growth potential in the coming quarters.
